The preliminaries for season four of the Rémy Martin Producers made its last stop in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania last night at the Punchline Comedy Club.  Thirty-nine of the hottest up and coming music producers across the country competed at 13 events with hopes of making it to the finale in Las Vegas in November.  Power players of the entertainment industry were among the judges and guests.  Philly natives DJ Drama and Freeway, formerly of Roc-A-Fella Records, were the featured producers dropping jewels for the contestants with host Jay Claxton.Rémy Martin signage and drinks covered the venue, changing it from a premier comedy club to a concert style nightclub setting.  The three competitors were Enon Jacobs, Midi Beats and Stashbokz.  Everyone had two rounds to impress the judges with custom beats they created.  Their beats would play for up to two minutes and the judges would then rate them on a scale of 1-50.  The person with the highest combined score after both rounds was declared the winner and able to move on to the semi-finals.  While I’ve attended several events in the series, last night were some of the highest scores I’d ever seen.  There were moments where guest judge Freeway declared that he liked a beat so much that he wanted it to be put aside for him.

Judges, host, and winner

At the end of an intense battle with very talented producers, it was the Philadelphia native Midi Beats that dominated the competition and came out victorious.  His music was undeniably filled with a “#1 hit” vibe.  The crowd was moved by the selections he chose and his family and friends cheered him on.  There was a moment when Midi Beats was so entranced by his own musical artistry that he danced across the stage and jumped into the audience bringing charisma and energy that won over the judges.  Midi Beats thanked his mother Karen, also affectionately called Mama Midi, for all the noise he’d made creating these beats that lead him to this epic moment.  Jay Claxton gave him the mic to say a few words to celebrate his win and he invited all musicians and artists to reach out to him and work together.  Congratulations Midi Beats as you advance to the semi-finals, where only five will be chosen to advance to the final round.  To see more information about the competition bracket or for a chance to win VIP access for two to the finale log on to!
