The light is shining bright on the DMV, from artists such as Wale, Fat Trel, Shy Glizzy, Logic, GoldLink and now Lyquin.

A member of Dj Drama & Don Cannon’s “Generation Now” conglomerate the 23 year-old is looking to create his own wave. Coming from Fort Washington, MD he grew up around music. His Parents exposed him to 80s & 90s classics but his biggest influences came from Jay-z, Biggie & Tupac. On his way to becoming a lyricist he went from admiration to action while being away at college. Just playing around freestyling he began to take it serious and devoted himself to music. Lyquin began to organically building a fan base by performing in local clubs & social media. In 2014 the release on his hit single “4 everybody” was the break he needed.

Lyquin possesses a unique blend of a R&B sweet talker and being a veracious spitter. With his ear for beats he creates a perfect gumbo that’s makes his music some of the best soul food you will encounter. Coming off his debut mixtape “2sides2astory” & sophomore mixtape “In The Meantime” he has found his groove. You can clearly hear the growth of his sound throughout the years. His experiences, trials & tribulations have helped him shape a “trap soul” sound. With the alley-oop  Lyquin started his roll out as a feature on Dj Dramas “Wishing” single along with Chris Brown and Skeme. Setting the world up for his ground breaking new project “The Other Side”.

“The Other Side” dropped on August 2 gives more attention to his journey. The tape has 12 tracks, comes in around 40 minutes, and makes it absorbable bite size treat for new listeners. The 3rd installment was graced with some dope producers such as Don Cannon, Dj Swift, The Directors, LG the producer and more. It’s a non-skip piece of work with hit after hit. Lyquin call on some of his celebrity friends to be apart such as Shy Glizzy for “Benefits”, which explains women looking for a man with material things. Also he calls on superstar Jeremih & Yung Berg for “Off The Wall” record.  Another record that catches attention is “One of One” produced by Dj Swift. The record samples T.O.K. footprints record for reggae lovers. Not your traditional DC sound, but something to push the envelope for the area. New listeners that place Lyquin will be highly mistaken. The Other Side is great riding music to create a soothing vibe in any environment. So grab a drink, call some friends over and enjoy.
